Prioritisation Committee Chair - Primary and Community-based Care

The Director of the NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme, Professor Andrew Farmer, seeks to appoint a leader in the field of health technology assessment or related applied clinical research, to undertake the duties of Chair of one of the NIHR HTA Prioritisation Committees, supporting the commissioned workstream. The appointment is for three years in the first instance.

As Chair you will be responsible for leading the HTA Prioritisation Committee which focusses mainly, but not exclusively, on prioritising research questions that have been developed for Primary and Community-based Care. You will engage all members of the committee in discussion and ensure that clear decisions are made. Other responsibilities will include supporting the identification and development of potential research questions to be put to the research community as calls for research in the programme’s commissioned workstream and advising the Programme Director on the importance of research questions.

The total time commitment to the NIHR HTA Programme is on average one session per week, covering attendance at meetings, providing specific advice and undertaking background and planning work. Prospective applicants should note this commitment is non-negotiable and attendance at meetings is crucial.

Successful candidates will have enthusiasm for and experience of evidence-based practice, in a senior clinical role in the NHS, excellent communication skills, proven ability to chair large committees effectively, and a track-record of research leadership.

The contract will initially be for three years  with the potential to extend. The role will attract an honorarium of £7,500 per annum, paid to the employing institution. Travel and expenses will be reimbursed separately.

Applications will be assessed by a shortlisting panel against the essential criteria and shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview on 18 October 2022.

The successful applicant will be invited to observe the Programme Oversight Committee on 10 February 2023 and the Prioritisation Committee meeting in January 2023 as part of the induction and handover process.
