Ear Nose and Throat UK Foundation and NIHR Clinical Research Network Awards 2022
The ENT UK Foundation/NIHR CRN research awards offer an important opportunity to further this joint commitment to encouraging research. The awards aim to make close connections and showcase research skills, processes and outputs.
Award Categories and Eligibility
ENT UK Foundation/NIHR CRN awards to recognise outstanding contributions in the following categories during 2021/2022:
Category A: Principal Investigator (PI) or Chief Investigator (CI) making an outstanding contribution in design, conduct and dissemination of NIHR portfolio studies, and building research capacity
Targeted towards Consultant grade or equivalent senior researchers from all multidisciplinary backgrounds. The panel will be looking for evidence to support ALL of the following criteria:
- Led collaborative research projects involving at least two institutions/organisations in the design and development of the project
- Led a trial successfully that changed practice
- Mentored early career researchers to become independent research leads
Category B: Early Career Researcher and those new to research showing a significant contribution to recruitment into NIHR portfolio studies
Targeted towards Trainees / Non Consultant grades across the clinical, public health or social care fields. The panel will be looking for evidence to support ALL of the following criteria:
- Increased research recruitment and/or developed new pathways to recruitment
- Contributed to the successful delivery of NIHR portfolio studies
- Engaged with patients to inform them of new opportunities to participate in NIHR CRN clinical research
Please note: An Early Career Researcher (and those new to research) is defined as being a health care, social care and public health professional currently in training posts or within 5 years (excluding career breaks, and extended pro rata for those in less than full-time work) of appointment to substantive NHS (or equivalent) positions. Special consideration will be given to those who can demonstrate they were only able to take up research opportunities later in their career.
Category C: Research Team making an outstanding contribution to the NIHR portfolio studies
Targeted towards the entire spectrum of clinical trials teams through hospital based teams to Primary Care and Community-based teams. The panel will be looking for evidence to support ALL the following criteria:
- Significant contribution to recruitment across numerous NIHR Portfolio adopted studies showing how you have led a significant number of trials that have changed practice
- Developed a cadre of early career researchers to become independent research leads
- Engaged with patients to inform them of new opportunities to participate in NIHR CRN clinical research
Application Process and Judging of Applications
- Applications should be made using only the application form. Any additional information submitted will NOT be considered by the panel.
- Applicants should note the word limit for the application.
- Completed application forms must be received by midnight on Monday 5th September 2022. Receipt of applications will be acknowledged.
- Applications will be assessed by the judging panel, including the ENT National Specialty Lead and members of ENT UK.
- Successful applicants will be notified by 3rd October 2022. We expect a high number of applications and are unable to provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
- Awards include free registration to the BACO International 2023.
Award Presentations
The awards will be presented at the ENT UK Foundation Awards Day on Friday 4th November 2022 in York. The winners will be asked to present their winning submission.
