Dr Dan Hart is the NIHR Clinical Research Network National Specialty Lead for Haematology. He is the Senior Lecturer in Haematology at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, and Honorary Consultant Haematologist at The Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.
He specialises in haemostasis and inherited bleeding disorders with a research interest in the immunobiology and genomic determinants of allo- and autoantibody formation. He is part of a clinical department at Barts Health NHS Trust with colleagues active in a breadth of non-malignant haematology clinical trials, both investigator-initiated and commercially sponsored, from registry hosting (ITP and marrow failure syndromes) to complex, commercial interventional trials (e.g. gene therapy in haemophilia).
Dan has been actively involved locally in NIHR study infrastructure and delivery since it's inception. As CRN North Thames local speciality lead, he has always participated actively at regional and national speciality meetings. Recently, co-deputising for his predecessor, Prof Toh, has given him further insight into NIHR priorities and future strategy. He recognises the importance and challenges of managing a research study portfolio across multiple different sites within a region as well as inter-regional differences in delivery. This is particularly important for a relatively small speciality within the NIHR structure, advocating actively locally and now nationally on behalf of the many very successful haematology investigators across the country.
