Professor Simon Heller is Co-Chair of NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research subcommittee B and Professor of Clinical Diabetes at the University of Sheffield, Director of Research and Development and Honorary Consultant Physician at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust.
He trained in Medicine at the University of Cambridge and the London Hospital. He undertook clinical training in clinical diabetes at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham and in research at the University of Nottingham and Washington University, St Louis, USA and obtained his MD in 1989.
He was appointed as Consultant Physician in General Medicine and Diabetes in Sheffield in 1991 and was awarded a personal Chair in 2008.
His research interests include the pathophysiology of hypoglycaemia and developing complex interventions to improve diabetes self-management. He is currently National Speciality Lead in Diabetes for the NIHR CRN. He was appointed as an NIHR Senior Investigator in 2012.
